The best holiday ads from 2023

The holiday season is cherished as a time to gather with friends and family and celebrate many religious and secular festivals, capped off with the ringing in of the new year.

Now that the season is upon us, it’s time to take a look at some of the best holiday ads of 2023. Not only is retail expected to garner their most profitable month of the year, but so is advertising, making this evergreen time of year not just important socially, but financially as well.

While this is a time to come together with loved ones and reflect on the past year, it is also a time of year inextricably linked to shopping. While there was a noticeable dip in spending during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, retail growth has remained steady and this holiday season spending is forecasted to continue its rise especially in Canada where Boxing Day is a holiday usually marked by shopping at great deals.

Alongside some spectacular holiday spending, customers can expect to see plenty of heart-warming ads this most wonderful time of the year.

What holiday ads always manage to do well is tell stories. The narratives and morals presented in well-planned festive commercials are always a joy to see, and this year is no different.

The top holiday ads of 2023

These are just some of the fantastic ads this year that celebrate the holiday season. The best holiday ads are the ones that not only resonate with the viewers and exemplify that holiday spirit, but are also proven to be an effective holiday advertising strategy.

The world needs more Santas – Coca-Cola

This almost two-minute commercial from Coca-Cola tells the heart-warming story of a city filled with Santa Clauses.

Throughout the ad, the Santas all assist one another, showing how in a world full of Santas, kindness will always prevail. Then, the story turns, begging the question: what would happen if more people acted this way in real life?

Joy Ride – Amazon

You’re never too old to have some fun. This ad from Amazon does a fantastic job showing age is just a number and winter whimsy is always in order. The story also shows how the people you love make life all the more joyful.

Festive Farm – TK Maxx

Who doesn’t love a silly ad? This commercial from the UK’s TK Maxx is a perfect example of silliness done right. After all, who wouldn’t dress all of their farm animals in designer clothes if the prices were low enough?

Give Joy – Boots

Generosity is the major theme in this ad from Boots. Who gives Santa gifts? Well, the little girl in this commercial and her mum go on a long and adventurous journey to be the ones to do it. Along the way they share gifts with everyone who helps them, spreading the holiday cheer far and wide.

Snapper: The Perfect Tree – John Lewis

John Lewis is famous for its Christmas ads and it’s easy to see why. This fun and festive ad brilliantly shows the importance and family and acceptance – by presenting viewers with a Venus Fly Trap Christmas tree.

The ridiculousness of this story is matched with a warm and loving family, showing viewers that the holidays can be as silly as they are cheerful.
